The Pumphouse Baseball Field in Tiltsonville, Ohio is about to get a new facelift. The old lighting system, which allows for night games, is being replaced with high-output, high-efficiency LED lighting courtesy of Unified Bank.
The Pumphouse Field has been home to Warren Township little league baseball players since the 1950s. “Local legend and Pittsburgh Pirate, Bill Mazeroski played at Warren Consolidated, and I’m sure spent time at our field,” said Warren Township Baseball President, Mason Boyce.
Every year between 50 and 100 kids benefit from the Pumphouse Field and Warren Township Baseball. Players are welcome from the ages of 4 to 14 years old. It is estimated that between 3,000 and 7,000 kids have played on the field since the 50s. Warren Township Baseball is made possible through volunteer efforts by parents and coaches like Chris and Dana Neavin, Drew McCleary, Brian Stang, Brian Young, Rick More, and Mason Boyce, who all have youth baseball age kids playing in the league.
Boyce and Chris Neavin met with Unified representatives earlier in the summer to ask for assistance in the form of a financial contribution toward the lighting project. Unified President and CEO, Scott Everson said, “after receiving the organization’s request, we decided to step up and provide all the funding necessary for the lighting project.” “I remember playing at Pumphouse Field as a boy and still have wonderful memories of that experience many years later.  Helping to create better lives and futures for the people and communities that we proudly serve brings great fulfillment to our company and fully supports our vision at Unified Bank,” added Everson.
“Playing baseball under the lights on the Pumphouse Field is like it’s the seventh game of the World Series,” said Boyce. “And all of it is possible because of our friends at Unified Bank,” Boyce added.
The WTB Organization holds signups every year beginning in February. Kids interested in playing and parents interested in helping out are invited to sign up and become a part of the WTB tradition.
“Unified is doing much more than lighting up our field, said WTB trustee, Chris Neavin, “they are creating wonderful memories for our kids.”
WTB President Boyce said Unified’s dedication to the community reminds him of the words of the late Ohio State Highway Patrol Chaplin, Rev. Ellsworth who preached “Service above Self.”
