Unified Bank recently reconfirmed their continued support of the Daily Bread Center in Martins Ferry, Ohio with the donation of over $7,000 to cover operational expenses for the Center for the year.
“Caring for our neighbors is important to Unified Bank. Making sure people in our communities have enough to eat has always been a vital part of our annual planning,” said Scott Everson, Chairman, President and CEO of Unified Bank. Each year Unified Bank contributes monthly donations to the Daily Bread Center in Martins Ferry totaling over $7,000 annually. These cash donations make it possible for the Daily Bread Center to operate and conduct their food service outreach programs.
The Daily Bread Center is a 501c3 serving food to families in need in the Martins Ferry School District area in conjunction with the Mid-Ohio Food Bank. In past years the Daily Bread Center operated a Pantry Choice model which allowed clients to choose from available items, much the same as they would find in any market. Since the dawn of Covid-19 the Center has switched to pre-packaged boxes that are given out at the door. This requires minimal contact and allows them to keep their volunteers and clients safe. The Center hopes to return to the Pantry Choice model in October or November as long as the virus does not worsen.
The Center also provides fresh produce weekly in an effort to assure a balanced and healthy diet to the people they serve. In 2019 the Center served 15,795 meals that reached 2,250 households. This included seniors and children. Clients register with the Daily Bread Center and at time of registration are given the required income standards and sign to verify that their income falls within the guidelines given through the Mid-Ohio Food Bank.
According to David Stammerjohn, President of the Board of Directors of the Daily Bread, “Unified Bank continues to be an important supporter of the Daily Bread Center. Unified provides for our rent at the Rec Center which means every dollar given by community members goes directly to food assistance.” Stammerjohn added, “Unified Bank also helped us with the purchase of refrigerators and freezers needed to maintain the food and perishable items we distribute.”
Unified Bank operates twenty Banking Centers located throughout East Central Ohio and West Virginia. Unified’s main office is located at 201 S. Fourth St., Martins Ferry Ohio. The Daily Bread Center is located in the Martins Ferry Rec Center at 401 S. Fourth St. in Martins Ferry. Both Unified Bank and the Daily Bread Center can be found on Facebook.

Unified Bank is a full-service FDIC-insured, state-chartered commercial bank headquartered in Martins Ferry, OH and has nineteen locations that serve the Ohio counties of Athens, Belmont, Carroll, Fairfield, Harrison, Hocking, Jefferson and Tuscarawas and Marshall County in West Virginia. Unified Bank is the sole operating subsidiary of United Bancorp, Inc.
